About Me

My name is Jan Davidson.

I am the Cape Fear Museum's historian.

I spent most of the 1990s in graduate school, earning an MA and a PhD. In 2000, I went to work at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History as the historian for a big exhibition project, America on the Move.

I landed at Cape Fear Museum in 2005. Since I've been on the job, I've performed research into all sorts of topics: from prohibition, to going to the movies, to the naval stories industry. That work has been used to support Museum programs, and create exhibitions.

I began this blog when I went to Savannah in 2010. I periodically post about material culture, museum work, and the history of Wilmington, North Carolina and the Lower Cape Fear.
